Well known for its dynamic, rhythmic style Spring Heel Jacks is a Chelmsford – based ceilidh / barn dance band playing mainly traditional tunes but with a touch of rock, jazz or a twist or two thrown in. The band recently extended its repertoire to include songs and is available for a wide range of occasions including fund raising events, weddings, birthday parties, wedding anniversaries, town twinning, clubs and societies, corporate entertainment and festivals. So if you want a cracking ceilidh, blistering barn dance, humming hoedown or an evening of sizzling folk songs and instrumentals look no further.
70th birthday party
I just wanted to write to say a HUGE thank you to you and all the band for making Saturday such a great evening. So many people have sent messages which include comments on you ranging from very good to brilliant!!! Your playing was magnificent, your explanations so patient and your calling perfect. That said, what I appreciated most was your flexibility with the timings, as things often slide a little. You were so easy going and pleasant.

Dance repertoire
We have a repertoire of over 140 dances covering all abilities from those who have never done it before to those who are very experienced. Our dances are mostly English, Scottish, Welsh or Irish and include some that have been recently written in addition to the well known traditional favourites.
The dances for an evening are planned but not fixed in advance allowing John, the caller, to adapt the programme to suit the dancers present. Each dance is fully explained in a walk through (usually twice) before starting with the music. Typically a dance plus the walk through beforehand take between 10 and 15 minutes. In our experience most dance evenings last up to 4 hours (e.g. from 7:30 to 11:30) including a break for refreshments which allows time for about 12 dances.
We have a PA system easily powerful enough for venues with 200 or more dancers.
